After a long winter’s nap The Novel Cauldron is up and running and ready to read.
In 2020 I read 100 books for the first time. I’m just so tickled that I managed to hit that goal. My initial goal was 50 books, my usual. When my reading rate increased over the summer the magic 100 seemed attainable. It was a bit of a crunch but, I made it!
Now, with a full calendar year ahead of me, I’m embarking on another 100 books! We’re starting off with a bang. This week I’m going to attempt to read four books. Yup! We’ve diving into the deep end from go.
So let’s dig into what I’m reading this week.
Winter of the Wallflower
Winter of the Wallflower has officially begun! The Seasonally Booked Up Book Club is examining the trope of the Wallflower by reading nine different romance novels over a period of time starting in the 1980’s to modern day.
We’re heading back to 1989 to Mary Balogh’s first book, The Gilded Web. This book starts off with our wallflower getting kidnapped from the gardens outside the ballroom. It’s all a hilarious misunderstanding which entwines a lovely cast of characters into a huge mess.
So far, it’s a fun and lovely read.
This will be my first Mary Balogh and already I’m loving her style. It’s a light and breezy read. Low steam so far but I’m still very entertained. Excited for a fun week of historical book chat with buddies.
The Psy-Changeling Readalong
I was introduced to the Psy-Changeling Series by Nalini Singh a couple of years ago and the series has been on my TBR list for awhile. When I discovered a collection of BookTube personalities put together a buddy read, I thought it would be a great way to dive into this iconic paranormal romance series.
The hosts of the #PsyChangelingReadaLong are I Heart Romance, NovelteaCorner, MeowthVader, Fantastically Taboo Books, and Books on Stereo. They have put together a Discord group for the chat and I’m excited to connect over this great paranormal romance series. If this sounds fun to you, visit any of the hosts and they will link you to the Discord.
I look at January as my “test month” for the series. I’ll read the first three books this month and then see if I want to stay for the full 19 books over five month challenge.
Riding the wave of my new year high I decided to read both Slave to Sensation and Visions of Heat this week.
Double the shifters, double the fun!
The Book that Got Away
I have a few books that I meant to read in 2020 that got away from me. But Battle Ground by Jim Butcher is the book I most regret not reading in 2020. Because I was so excited for the book, I was always “waiting for the right time” to read it. So silly.
So the time is now. I’m probably going to take a day later this week and do a full “phone is on silent no one can find me” hideaway and binge it in one go. I’m excited and nervous and you probably won’t hear my thoughts on it for awhile because I’ll need time to process, but it’s happening!
What Are You Reading This Week?
So now that you’ve seen my list, let me know what you’re reading this week! I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
Have a happy Monday, friends!
