Stepback Saturday was founded by Lindsay, a.k.a PinkCowlandReads on Instagram as a way to celebrate the beautiful and brazen art of romance novels. Here at The Novel Cauldron I making Stepback Saturday into a weekly series in which I “step back” to review my week of reading and share fun news and updates!
It’s been a low key week at The Novel Cauldron. My eighteen-year-old poodle, Toodles, hasn’t been feeling well and we’ve been running back and forth to the vet making sure she’s receiving proper care. When the furry family members are struggling, it puts a strain on the whole household.
I’m happy to report that she’s feeling much better this weekend. We’re very lucky to have her in her twilight years and we’re doing our best to ensure she’s happy and healthy.
This picture is from about five years ago, but it’s one of my favorites and I’m happy to share it here.
Toodles loves snuggling Mr. Novel Cauldron and I when he’s playing video games and I’m reading. She keeps us both warm and snuggly and reminds us to take breaks for snacks. What a good girl.
Speaking of warm and snuggly, this pretty couple seems to be enjoying their time together.
That’s right, it’s Stepback Saturday!
This stepback is from Gallant Waif by Ann Gracie which was published in 1999 by Harlequin Historicals. This sweet stepback is so romantic. He’s clearly so into her and she’s very warm to the attention.
There’s something special about the more chaste stepbacks. It feels romance forward and that can be very appealing from time to time.
On Instagram we were chatting about what the fascination with the heroine’s chin could be! Mr. Novel Cauldron was joking that it’s a quirky title for a romance. Of course it’s not the title, but I can’t say that Gallant Waif is much better to be honest.
Ann Gracie has been an author on my to read list for awhile. I’ve been wanting to read her Chance Sisters series which features an array of seasonal brides starting with The Autumn Bride.
I’ll admit to falling in love with the book covers for this entire series, and I’ve heard nothing but good tings about Anne Gracie. So that will be a fun series for me to investigate later this year.

I love Tiffany Reisz’s writing! I had the pleasure of reading the first book of her Godwicks erotica series, The Red, a few years ago, and I quite enjoyed it. Highly steamy and not for the faint of heart.
